WOW! It feels like it has been forever since I blogged. Maybe it's just that this week has dragged on forever. Sorry that this has NOTHING to do with scrapping, but I just wanted to share with you all what life has been like around here these last few days. About 4am Monday morning my family (parents) got the call to evacuate their home. It wasn't a reverse 911 call, but a friend that called in a panic saying that the flames were surrounding her house and that they needed to get out too. This was a fire that had been 35 miles away from them when they went to bed that night. CRAZY!!! They frantically loaded up their trailer with pictures and important papers and left. We've recieved word that their house is still standing but that the homes of many of their neighbors and friends have been destroyed. It is so sad.
Here's a picture that I got from the local paper of an air drop in their neighborhood. Now I know why their trees were all singed!
So, needless to say I've been a little on edge this week. The fires here are burning within 10 miles of our house which judging by the rate at which the fires in SD spread isn't far enough. We've been packed up and ready to leave at a moments notice all week. The air is so thick with ash and smoke that we haven't been able to go outside for days and the sun casts an erie orange glow on the whole city as it tries to shine through the dirty air. Here is a picture from this morning at 10am. Looks like sunset, huh?
This picture doesn't really do it justice, but you can tell it looks like an overcast day here when actually it is 88 degrees and supposedly sunny...
I'm defintely thankful for all my blessings today. Please keep all of those hundreds of thousands of displaced people in your thoughts and prayers today and count your blessings!
Have a great day!
It sure has been a long week. My whole family is in San Diego, while I'm in IL. My sister was under mandatory evacuation for a few days. She was near the Harris fire. Fortunately, my parents and my brother were able to stay in their homes, but I have many friends who were evacuated too. My prayers are with all of them. Everyone is safe now though. Great photos!
